HOMO INNOVATICUS
A cultural possibility. An invitation to become.
The Homo Innovaticus is not a biologically new human being.
It is a cultural image for a person who learns to remain creative, connected, responsible and capable of judgment in a world shaped by increasingly powerful technologies.
WHAT KIND OF HUMAN BEING DO WE WANT TO BECOME WITH OUR TECHNOLOGIES?
A third stance
Neither uncritical technology optimism nor cultural pessimism is enough.
The Homo Innovaticus seeks a third stance: to use technology actively and intelligently while strengthening the human capacities that technology cannot relieve us of — meaning, responsibility, relationship, judgment and the ability to decide what is worth becoming real.
Human capacities that matter more, not less
- Imagination
- seeing possibilities before they are fully visible.
- Intuition
- sensing patterns and meaning before they are completely explicit.
- Relationship
- creating trust, dialogue and shared agency.
- Judgment
- distinguishing information, plausibility, knowledge, meaning and responsibility.
- Stewardship
- carrying authority in trust and acting for a shared future.
AI as an expansion of possibility
AI can expand knowledge, offer new images and analogies, connect fields, accelerate research and generate alternatives.
But more possibilities do not reduce the need for human judgment. They increase it.
AI CAN ENLARGE THE SPACE OF POSSIBILITIES. HUMAN BEINGS MUST HELP DECIDE WHICH POSSIBILITY SHOULD BECOME THE FUTURE.
From idea to practice
The MVIP — Minimum Viable Innovation Process — translates this human image into a journey of four islands and two judgment gates.
The human being must not only remain in the loop. Human judgment must remain there too.
